    Johnson: 'Colombia and all nations ought to be on discover'

    Home Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) stated Sunday that “Colombia and all nations should be on notice” after President Trump stated he was inserting tariffs and a journey ban on the South American nation.

    “Colombia and all nations should be on notice – Congress is fully prepared to pass sanctions and other measures against those that do not fully cooperate or follow through on requirements to accept their citizens who are illegally in the United States,” Johnson stated in a publish on the social platform X.

    “President Trump is putting America first, just like he said he would. And Congress will implement policies that reinforce his agenda,” he added. 

    In a publish on Fact Social earlier Sunday, the president stated he “was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia.”

    “This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people,” he added.

    Trump added that the Colombian president’s “denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States,” and that, subsequently, he had “directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures,” together with U.S.-bound items going through tariffs of 25 % and the prohibition of journey “on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.”

    Petro ordered the elevating of import tariffs on items from the U.S. in response to Trump’s tariffs and sanctions. In a publish on X later Sunday, he stated he had directed “the “foreign trade minister to raise import tariffs from the U.S. by 25%.”

    “American products whose price will rise within the national economy must be replaced by national production, and the government will help in this regard,” the publish continued.

    The Hill has reached out to the Colombian authorities for remark.
