Darth Vader’s iconic crimson lightsaber was bought for over $3.6 million at public sale on Thursday, making it the most costly piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever auctioned off.
The prop bought for $3,654,000 and was certainly one of 433 items of uncommon tv and film memorabilia up on the market through the first day of Propstore’s Leisure Memorabilia Stay Public sale in LA. Propstore initially estimated the lightsaber to fetch between $1 million and $3 million.
The screen-matched lightsaber was utilized in duel scenes between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker through the remaining two installments of the unique Star Wars trilogy, “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”
“To see a Star Wars lightsaber – the symbol of one of cinema’s greatest sagas – become the highest-valued piece of the franchise ever sold at auction is incredibly special,” Brandon Alinger, COO of Propstore, stated in an announcement.
There may be at the moment no details about who made the acquisition.
