Exxon CEO Darren Woods urged President-elect Trump to remain within the Paris local weather settlement because the oil and fuel trade prepares for the brand new administration.

In an interview with The Wall Avenue Journal, Woods stated the U.S. shouldn’t pull out of the settlement, a global pledge that seeks to mitigate the consequences of local weather change.

Woods argued an U.S. exit from the 2015 settlement, which Trump has proposed he would do, would trigger confusion world wide for local weather efforts. The Trump administration first introduced it might go away the accords in 2017.

Exxon has publicly supported the Paris Settlement since 2015, the Journal famous.

In 2020, the U.S. formally left the Paris local weather accord. It was set in movement a yr prior by Trump throughout his first time period and was a landmark resolution making the U.S. the one nation on this planet to withdraw from the settlement.

Beneath President Biden, the U.S. rejoined the settlement in 2021.

Woods informed the Journal that it’s not useful for companies to have a “pendulum swing back and forth” as administrations change.

“I don’t think the stops and starts are the right thing for business,” he stated. “It is extremely inefficient. It creates a lot of uncertainty.”

The Hill has reached out to a Trump spokesperson for remark.
