Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) on Thursday mentioned TikTok has complied together with her request to take away footage of Charlie Kirk’s capturing on the campus of Utah Valley College, which occurred in entrance of a crowd of roughly 3,000.
“I have just received word from TikTok that they will be removing the horrific videos of Charlie Kirk’s final moments,” Luna wrote in a press release on the social platform X.
“Thank you, TikTok. I have also asked them to take down content that uses this horrific incident to incite violence against others,” she continued.
TikTok didn’t instantly reply to The Hill’s request for touch upon the matter.
Nevertheless, Luna mentioned the social platform despatched a press release to her that learn, “We are saddened by the assassination of Charlie Kirk and send our deepest condolences to his wife Erika, their two young children, and their family and friends.”
“These horrific violent acts don’t have any place in our society. We stay dedicated to proactively imposing our Neighborhood Pointers and have carried out extra safeguards to stop folks from unexpectedly viewing footage that violates our guidelines,” the assertion added.
Updates to TikTok’s group pointers are set to enter impact Saturday morning because the social outlet mentioned it goals to “inspire creativity and bring joy” to customers.
With a purpose to create a tradition of “safety and civility,” TikTok reminded customers that violent or prison habits, hate speech, harassment and bullying are usually not allowed, and that it’s going to take away content material that violates its requirements.
The replace comes after a Wednesday message from Luna, who put out a public request for TikTok; Elon Musk, the proprietor of the social platform X; and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to take away “horrifying” movies of Kirk’s homicide.
The Florida lawmaker mentioned Kirk’s household shouldn’t be “forced to relive this tragedy online.”
