Murtagh’s best friend has been lying to him while Murtagh sat around talking about Ellen all the time to Brian, which is embarrassing for him. He’s never acknowledged any of these things, but now he knows he’s been lied. Ellen’s chosen another guy over Murtagh twice in one day, and then Jocasta is in her crisis. And after the tent scene, Ellen’s wandering towards a marriage with Malcolm Grant, so it’s a really good midpoint where everything turns on a dime for everyone.”
