    Penske 'didn’t authorize' DHS use of its vehicles in immigration raid

    Penske Truck Rental stated Wednesday it “did not authorize” the Division of Homeland Safety (DHS) to make use of its vehicles in an immigration raid.

    “Penske Truck Rental is aware of recent reports and videos regarding a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) operation in Los Angeles,” Penske stated in a press release posted on the social platform X.

    “Penske strictly prohibits the transportation of people in the cargo area of its vehicles under any circumstances. The company was not made aware that its trucks would be used in today’s operation and did not authorize this. Penske will reach out to DHS and reinforce its policy to avoid improper use of its vehicles in the future,” the assertion continued.

    The Los Angeles Instances reported {that a} Wednesday immigration raid in L.A. concerned a Penske truck driver at a Residence Depot saying he was in search of staff, based on a day laborer.

    A number of Border Patrol brokers leaped from the again of the truck whereas staff surrounded it and over a dozen have been arrested, based on the L.A. Instances. 

    “This week, Border Patrol performed a focused raid, dubbed Trojan Horse, in Los Angeles at a Residence Depot that resulted within the arrest of 16 unlawful aliens from Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Federal legislation enforcement will proceed using all assets to arrest prison unlawful aliens and hold Individuals secure,” a DHS spokesperson informed The Hill in an emailed assertion Thursday.

    The Trump administration has intensely cracked down on immigration since its begin in January, particularly in Los Angeles. Protests erupted in opposition to immigration enforcement within the metropolis a couple of months in the past whereas President Trump deployed troops to the Southern California metropolis.

    After a latest drawdown by the Division of Protection (DOD), round 250 Nationwide Guard troops have been set to remain in Los Angeles to help in defending federal personnel and buildings.
